Minecraft is a game created by Mojang and was sold to Microsoft for 2.5 billion dollars. It is an endless, pixelated, and educational game where you can survive the monsters at night in survival mode or build whatever you can think of in creative mode!
Is it worth buying?
I started playing Minecraft before Minecraft was even released. I played a version called Minecraft Lite, where there was very limited gameplay. It was amazing to see how that version of a game became a starting point for a very fun and educational game. Minecraft was fully released on November 18, 2011, and that alone began teaching people things such as rare certain gems, like diamonds ore. Minecraft has taught me multiple things like how certain items are used for certain things, now I know not to use a shovel if I want to break a tree! Minecraft is never boring as it has monthly updates. Sometimes, Microsoft will take a little bit longer to give out the update but that is just because with each update, the content grows bigger and better.
Within the constant updates, it does not just give things such as patch notes and bug fixes, but every once in a while, Microsoft adds new characters and items to play with and learn about. Despite Minecraft having bugs with each added update, the Mojang team continues to release frequent patch fixes to make gameplay as smooth as possible. Minecraft is a game that ranges in cost from $9.99 – $35.00 on various gaming platforms, but I would recommend that it is worth the money for a number of reasons such as paying the initial fee only once, and constant updates and patch notes. A game similar to Minecraft is Terreria created by Re-Logic. It is a 2d game with a similar concept, perhaps even more content to certain game players, yet it only costs $1.99, so why shouldn’t you buy Terraria instead of Minecraft? Well, Minecraft may be more expensive, but it does take longer to complete the game as in Terreria, I have been able to complete it in 1 hour, no sweat, and others probably have completed it faster than me without putting in too much effort. Minecraft however, if you are not trying to complete it as fast as you can, then it would take about 5-10 hours depending on what you want to do in the game.
Now, you might be wondering, “Is it possible to play offline and online?” . The answer is yes! Minecraft is a game where you can play with friends in multiplayer servers, or you can play alone. Another great thing about being able to play online is that Minecraft is a cross-platform game which means you can play simultaneously with friends while on different devices.
Signing in to Minecraft
When you first join Minecraft on an iPad or Tablet (IOS or Android), you don’t specifically need to sign up if you don’t want to play on a server. You are able to play as a single player with no account information required. If you do want to play online, however, then you will have to sign up for Xbox Live, which is absolutely free. All you need to do to sign up is putting in your Email and password, and a few seconds later you will receive a verification code. The verification code will be sent to you by text or email, and you simply have to input the code into the account sign-up section.
When on a PC or Mac, you will have to pay $35.50 CAD or $26.95 USD to download the game. Once Minecraft has installed on your PC, head to the Minecraft website: https://www.minecraft.net/en-us/ to make your free account.
For instance, if you have two friends who both play Minecraft and they want to play with you in a multiplayer game, do you have to sign up? Actually, no! As long as you are on the same network you can play together without signing up. When signing up, it asks you if you would like to use Xbox live, meaning that you are allowed to play on servers. This does cost some money depending on what device you are playing on.
Usernames
When signing up, you will need to make your own username. This is another reason that Minecraft is good because it will not just let you make a username that has a swear word. It does limit you to 20 characters and you cannot put any spaces but other than that, you are free to make your own username! One last thing to know about making a username is that you cannot have the same name twice but you can change the numbers at the end.(i.e. RaduGaming13 and RaduGaming142)
Passwords
When creating your password, I would suggest to write it down because if you forget it, then you won’t be able to do anything and will have to contact Microsoft to figure out what your password is. Make sure that you password has more than just uppercase or lowercase letter, try adding at least 3 of these:
- Numbers
- Uppercase letters
- Lowercase letters
- Symbols
- Punctuation.
If you have these, then your password shouldn’t be easily guessed.
